Introducing ‘Extreme Reading’

We are excited to announce a new initiative in our school called Extreme Reading.   One of our aims is to encourage and develop a love of reading in all of our pupils across the school, there are so many different texts to choose from, it could be a story book, a newspaper, a magazine, a non-fiction text or a comic, the main thing is that you enjoy what you are reading.

Normally, we see your children reading while sitting at a table, on a chair, sometimes in a book corner but we are now asking that you encourage them to try something a little bit different. We would like to see your children reading in unusual but safe places – maybe under a climbing frame in the park, sitting at the top of a slide, or make a cosy den in your home and read under there!

While your child is reading in their unusual place, please could you take a photograph of them and email it to us at extreme.reading@kingsashacademy.com  In the email, could you please add the following details: your child/children’s name (s), their class, the title and author of the book they are reading and a sentence or two from your child about what they are enjoying about the book.

The photos will be used in a couple of ways, to form part of our English display which is currently situated outside the hall and some photos will go onto our website. Please make sure the school knows if any details have changed with regards to placing your children’s photos on our website.

The children at school will be introduced to Extreme Reading by their class Reading Ambassadors who have had a go at it around school recently. As well as some of the children trying out Extreme Reading recently, many of our teachers have also been reading in unusual places; click on the gallery above to view some photos, we really enjoyed taking them.

We are really looking forward to seeing all the different places that the children find to read.
